Hi, if space is a concern i would think that a vertical may be best
compromise. have had many over the years and currently using a gap
challenger with great results. The cushcraft R5 and R7 used or now the r7000
are good. Found that one of the best verticals i have ever used was a
butternut. Don't think you can go wrong with gap products. Wire antennas are
great but do take up more space. i assume the 718 does not have an auto
antenna tuner but there are a few outboard auto antenna tuners now and all
seem to work pretty well. With a vertical that is set up right, you may not
even need a tuner at all. i am using one cause never really got antenna
tweeked properly so auto tuner brings it in perfect. There are also loop
antennas. i had the tunable isoloop hidden in attic of condo at one time and
worked remarkably well. Best of luck and write if any questions at all. 73,
Dave W4CI
