Andrew:

I have never used that rig, but have had two of its big brothers, the FT1000
and the FT1000mp which I currently use, alongside my TS2000.
The MP (and presumably the 990) can be controlled to a greater or lesses
extent according to which software you are using to drive it.
I recently operated the whole 24 hours of the CW HFNFD in June and only
touched the rig a couple of times to adjust the volume. This was using
TRLOG which is a DOS based primarily contest logging program.

ACLOG is reasonably accessible with both JAWS and Window Eyes, and can be
set up to control and receive band, mode and frequency, also speech and CW
keying.

Both of these bits of software will work with the full range of Yaesu rigs.

use a Yeasu FT 990 atoll? I know there is no voice chip for this radio,
but is it very accessible for a totally blind person to us?
