Jim, the ocr is definately inferior to a flatbed scanner.  You pretty much have
to buy the scanning stand to do much good.  I've had no luck freehand scanning,
or at least very little luck.  I do need to try the new update of the firmware.
It processes a page in about eight seconds.  If you can get the machine on a
grant it would be worth playing with but if you have to plunk down $800 for the
machine and another couple hundred for accessories such as memory and the
reading stand and you want the dictionary etc. I'd hesitate.
