The k-3 and kx-3 are very flexible, but many of the features are through
menus.
The kenwoods do most things through buttons and knobs.
The ts-590 has excellent transmit and receive audio.
The ts-480 has audio DSP, but is a fantastic CW radio. The control head
connects to the body of the radio with a cable. This feature is easy to get
used to.
They seem to be $700 or less used.
Thhe radio is average on CW until you insert the optional filter. Either
500 or 270 HZ.
Then the radio hears and selects everything that the kx-3 does.
Does the ts-590 have the I-F filter as standard equipment?
The ts-480 S-a-t model has an internal tuner that matches anything under 6-1
SWR.
What is the range on the ts-590 internal tuner?

You can't go wrong either way. A used ts-440 should be around $400 and is
also an excellent radio.
So are the ts-450, ts-690, ts-2000, ts-850 or ts-950.
Parts for the older radios may become hard to find.
I would want to put my hands and ears on a used radio before buying it.
I haven't used a tentech radio beyond my Omni D, so I can't say which of
their radios are accessible or not. They have a history of putting CW
first, so I have always liked them.\

I don't know about the icom 7000 or 7200, but I think the people who use
them are very pleased.

I don't think much of the receiver in the icom 706. Not very good at
agacent signal rejection, when compared with the above listed radios.
The kx-3 by the way is unbelievabley poor on the standard broadcast band.
It uses a single conversion receiver, which has a lot of trouble with the
signals down there.
It is however very quiet on the ham bands.
What ever you do, with a new radio; you will be amazed at the ease of
operation and accessibility when compared to the radios of the 60, 70, and
80's.

Nothing against the k3, I haven't actually messed with one, but there are
those on the 590 list who said they got rid of their k3 rigs. Only the
shadow knows. Feature for feature, don't you pay about twice the dough for
a k3? I'm told the k3 folks tech support is fabulous, kind of llike Tentech
use to be.

I have a friend who has one of their amps and their tuner, he runs on a
590 and he likes those very much. First question I'd say is how much money
is available?
