Tom,

It sounds like you had a defective one. My probe batteries last
about six
months. You need to be careful to make sure that the rubber
gasket properly
fits around the edge of the probe's case. Otherwise, moisture
will get in
and damage the batteries.

Steve

I got one of thise a couple years ago from Blind Micemart. It
never did
work
very well and after a month or so the clock even stopped setting
to WWV.
Another problem I had is that the batteries in the probe only
lasted a
 couple
days. Even if I used those expensive long life batteries I
never got more
 than
 a month out of them.

I found the max range on the probe to be about 50ft and that was
on a good
 day.

Anybody have one of these from blind mice? We, meaning my wife
and I, =
got one for Christmas and it all works fine except the outdoor
probe. =
By that I mean, I put the batteries in and the main clock unit
isn't =
getting a signal, apparently, and it is good for 150 feet. I
have it =
less than 10 feet away out the window. Unfortunately, Blind
Mice has a =
14 day return policy so you don't get much time to test it when
it was =
saved a few days for a Christmas gift. I just thought before
trying to =
return it, maybe somebody on this list has one and knows about
the =
probe. I was a little concerned upon opening it at Christmas
because =
there were no instructions but even a blind man can figure this
one out =
so I'm wondering, the way it wasn't packaged, that is, not
shrink =
wrapped and no instructions, if it had already been returned
once =
before. I bought a staple gun at a big hardware store once and
when I =
got it home, I could see the way the box was torn, it had at
least been =
opened and when I started using it, it wouldn't work right half
the time
 =
so I returned it and next time checked the packaging closer
before =
 leaving the store.
