Hi all,

I've just rejoined the list after a year away. Small child and all that
kind of stuff. She is now asleep so its radio time.

I've been dribbling over the FT817 recently but given it doesn't have a
speech option I've been thinking about using it with a laptop PC. How
compatible is the yaesu control software with jaws, anyone played with
it? I know the FT817 is a compromise in many ways and I rather go for a
K2 but the FT817 is just for playing radio when out in a tent. Having 2m
on board also saves having an extra radio to lug about. The thing that
is against it is the way it munches batteries.

is the control software available under windows CE yet, to work with
pack mate possibly? Does Kenwood offer their control stuff under
windows CE yet? There seems to be a lot of folks using various PDA type
devices for portable HF logging and so on so I would guess someone has
knocked up something for windows Ce but I haven't found it when
meandering around the web.

Regards - Liam
