All MC-60A's get power form Kenwood radios. There were one or 2 Kenwoods
that didn't have the power pin on the mic jack but honestly, I've had almost
all the Kenwood radios since they went to the 8 pin jack and I have yet to
come across the one that doesn't have that capability. The only one I'm not
sure of was the TS-930 but even that I'm pretty sure mine had that. The
battery compartment is nice if you rewire it for a 4 pin Kenwood or another
make of radio but other than that, you don't need to put batteries in it.
I've run one on most of the Kenwood HF radios I've owned back when I used to
try them all and I don't ever recall using batteries and the preamp always
working. I've had about all the Kenwood radios too, the list of ones I
haven't had is a lot shorter than ones I have though I can't say for
anything newer than the TS-2000 because I can't afford to do that anymore.
