Hi Mike,
You don't need the batteries in the mic to use it with the ts590.
If you look at the mic with the screan you talk in to facing you you 
will find two switches on the top of the mic it's self.
The one closest to you keep that switch away from you in other wards off.
behind it there is a preamp switch have that pulled tward you and will 
then be on.
it will work fine.
