I'm not a big fan of switchers although my 990 does have one in it. I
run astron 35 and 75 standard analog supplies with very heavy
transformers. No extra noise and it takes a lot to turn on the fan on
the 75. I have an mfj 20 amp switcher, and my main complaint is the fan
runs continiously no matter the load. It should have some kind of
temperature control. I'm running a 20 amp switcher that came with one
of my kenwood repeaters, I forget the brand, and it has lots of noise on
160. Again, I'm not a fan of switchers. I understand their advantage,
but not for me.
