Afraid I can't be of much help as I never used the serial port.  The 
tuner does not put the amp in stand by mode, it just doesn't let the 
keying line go through if that makes sense.  If it is keying the amp no 
matter what, got to be shorted relay contacts or something.  It did work 
on mine like it was supposed to.  When the tuner went into tune mode, 
even though the radio grounded the keying line to the amp, it was not 
passed through the tuner.  I never worried about the tuner following the 
radio, I just hit the tune button.  Sorry, I don't know anything else to 
suggest.
