I use a dual-lever paddle built by my former boss at Collins Radio, Dave
Hallock, W0SS. It has separate adjustments for spring tension and contact
spacing on each lever, and weighs enough that it doesn't go anywhere on the
ddesk. For years I was using the circuit which Dave built into it, a keyer
that did dash override when both paddles were squeezed. For the 6 years
since I bought my FT950, I have bypassed that circuit and use the 950's own
keyer, which is iambic. Took some getting used to, but I prefer a squeeze
paddle to some extent. For contests I am also using the memories built into
the 950 to store up to 5 short messages keyed in with the paddle.

Mike

It's possible, in fact rather common, to use a dual lever paddle as if it
were a single-lever device. That's how I used my bencher paddle for years.
You just don't squeze it but rather hit each lever directly from its
respective side. You might want to experiment with widening the spacing
between the 2 levers. I agree with you, I don't care for iambic paddles.
That was one of the factors that drove me to a keyboard several years ago.
