Matthew, I used to use a Hygain D X 77 and it don't require radials and I
worked the world with it.  Verticals are a bit noisier than horizontal ants
but for long hauls work very good.  You mount the D X 77 up about 7 feet or
so off the ground  on a pipe.  Very good ant I think
