I just recently purchased two MFJ 297 mics, and the reports I am getting are
excellent. I especially like the several buttons on the base of this mic
that work nicely with the 590.

Like John, I get irritated with two or three people telling someone they
need to
re-configure their mic settings. One person will tell you that you have too
many highs, and then, another will tell you that you have way too many lows,
and then, a third will tell you to not touch a thing; it sounds just perfect
the way it is, and so it goes.

I will say this that during the last SSB contest a week or so ago, I heard
some of the worst audio I have ever heard. Some of the guys had their audio
so compressed and so much emphasis on the highs that they sounded terrible,
and it was extremely difficult to understand them.

That was a great mic, with specs similar to the Heil Gold Line.

Unfortunately, it is no longer made.

If you can find a used one, grab it.
