Martin, it is the processing external device on the implant that actually
generates rf signals. In fact, there is a transmitter in the unit to
communicate with the internal electrod array. There are signals going both ways
(both from and to the array) so it is truly a potential rf mess. Whether there
is a problem with the processing or the internal damping circuitry really
depends if and how far these signals are generated. Remember that we're talking
about an extremely low power consumption device but it still can splatter and
interact.
