I had to get the 2013 version of Outlook because they said older ones
wouldn't work on this computer.  So that meant getting the home pro version
of Office 2013.

The native E-Mail program in my opinion isn't that great.  I put Outlook
2003 on the system and it gives close to the look and feel of outlook
Express.  Bring out shortcuts to all the apps you use frequently to the
desktop and you will have extremely minimal interaction to the metro style
menus and ribbons.
