It's a toggle.  Just press the func key along with that middle button in the
left row and you can turn the MONI off.

yI have read the article you mentioned I think, but I still can't quite
figure out how to turn the monitor on and off.  Actually, I got it to go
on and I  turned up the level, but I couldn't get it gto go off.  Only
thing I could do was turn the level down.
