Both the wouxun and the Boafeng will speak the numbers as you enter the
frequency, but they do not tell you what frequency you are tuned to. The
Wouxun announces what memory number yoou are on if your in memory mode. The
Boafeng does not tell you the memory number until you hit either the up or
down arrow keys. Both HTs do speak some of the menu items, but not all of
them.

A local ham friend of mine bought a Boafeng ht at Dayton last may and the HT
wouldn't go in to memory mode. You could save memories, but you couldn't go
in to memory mode. Our local club is going to use that HT as a Fox in a fox
hunt one of these days!

No just the channel number. What rig did you see? One of our members got a
new one also think it's a TDX or something like that.

Subject: chinese handhelds

Hi;
My local radio club did a demo of the "latest" Chinese hand helds.
Unfortunately speech wasn't mentioned so I had a chat after the meeting.
I've determined that these radios speak the frequency as its entered
and apparently some menu items speak. As for memory channels there was
some discussion as to whether they will speak just the Chanel number or
frequency. We couldn't get it to speak anything other than the Chanel
number. What other type of audio feedback if any should one get with
these radios? Also what are the differences between the two brands?
Thanks
