Wow. Suggest you contact your congressman.

    Butch:

I am so sorry to hear of this latest bad turn of events in your life!

I have a suggestion that may or may not be worth anything, but is there a
blind advocacy organization in your area that you might call on for help?

I think you may still be in Vegas, and I have to believe there might be
something out there for you.

My other thought would be to write to your US Congressman or Senator, but
lord knows whether you'll get any help there.

This is exactly the thing that worries me as I approach retirement. So much
of what we need is handled by large government agencies now, and for all
practical purposes, accountability has gone out the window.

Again, I am so sorry, Butch, and I hope all of your friends on this list can
put up with a little "off topic" traffic, since this sort of thing could
affect any one of us at some point down the road.

Off topic I know, but I'm really discourraged. The last month in my life
has been unbelievable.

I have been drawing some each month on s s d i on my dad's number for many
years. As some of you may know, my wife passed away last December. I
called social security this morning to ask about getting a widdow's
pention. I was told by the lady there that since my marriage in 2000,
that I should not have been eligible. Therefore, I'll get a letter of
over payment and I will have to repay the last ten and a half years back
to them. I was told many times before that my marital status wouldn't
effect this. I don't know where to go from here. On top of everything
else I've been going through, this is the last straw.
