Hi Fred,
I did use a lo profile sicular polarized antenna.  This was mounted on a 
magnetic mount.  It didn't have great gain, but got your
signal out.  I no longer have this antenna, for it was loaned to me to 
experiment with .  We use  a 5/8 wave antenna mounted on a magnetic base. 
When we enter the garage , we either reach up through the sun roof and 
unscrew the antenna or let it get knocked over when we enter the garage. 73.
