Mat, a vanity call is a call sign that you select yourself instead of
accepting a generated call sign. For example, some people might select
their initials as their call sign, or some other set of letters that have
some special meaning to them. Or someone might want to select the call sign
of a silent key who may have helped them along as a memorial to that person.
Of course this is contingent on whether or not the selected call sign is
available . The FCC does charge for such call signs.
