Well, your theory on the shorter-than-usual skip might explain part of what 
I experienced today.

For example, I could not even hear the one or two California check-ins we 
had, which, in my view, is highly unusual for that time of day here in 
Michigan.

Will be interesting to see how things play out next Sunday.

KD8PC has never been loud from here.  It seems to make a big difference if a
station is in the first hop or the second.  I could hear you and George
faintly, but not enough to copy.  Today, for almost the first time, WA9TOP
was loud and clear, indicating shorter F skip than we usually have.
