Steve,

I thought that might be the case but I didn't really know. Should the time
ever come that I needed additional tuning capacity, would I connect an
external tuner between the ts-590 and the transmission line to the antenna?

Also, what part of the country are you located?

Thank you Steve,

Kent

No, it doesn't. Most antenna tuners on the newer rigs, with the exception
of the older Kenwood TS-850, can't handle huge SWR variations that you can
handle with an external tuner. They might be able to handle 4:1 or so
SWR's, but not much more than that because they have small caps and probably
a limited selection of fixed coil values.

Because of this, depending on the antenna load your facing, it may not be
able to give you a good SWR match. Obviously, if you are tuning a dipole
cut for that band, or a decent multi-band antenna like the G5RV, it will
work fine. But, for loading a inverted vee on other bands, you're better
off with an external tuner.
