very similar to the TH F6A's battery or power saving feature...only on the
kenwood, you can manually set the sleep and wake times...the radio goes to
sleep every 3 seconds by default on the TH F6A, and sleeps for 1 second
before listening for a signal again...it automatically does this by default
and most people wouldn't even notice it.
As buddy said, sometimes you can tell when the air has been quiet for a
while and someone keys the repeater and starts yapping the second the ptt is
pressed...there is an ever so slight delay and you'll miss the first second
sometimes...I think all ham radios should come with a feature as seen in
many commercial radios and public safety radios...a beep indicating that the
repeater has been brought up and you don't talk until you hear the beep...
I know this is done for the soul purpose of sending the individual radio's
ID and in a trunking system to allow time for the various radios and control
systems to sync up, but it's a great feature that always insures that others
hear every word you want to say right from the first sylable.
