Hi Group,

This issue of extraneous characters has been discussed at length on this
list in the past. I will briefly summarize for the new comers.

I actually communicated with the list owner who was a bit put out over
my insistence that the issue is over list server configuration. Others
running the same software as is used on this list disagree. Not running
a server myself, I'll just leave the debate hang as such.

First of all, this is the only list out of 17 that I am presently
subscribed to that has this issue with extraneous characters.

The issue definitely has to do with the way that this list mail software
processes HTML/Rich Text formatting used by most modern mail programs.
One possible solution that works for many people is to switch your
outgoing mail format for this list to plain text. It has worked for me
in Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail and Thunderbird and for a few
friends of mine who are using Outlook Mail from the Microsoft Office
Suite. For some reason, best known only to some people, this switch
to plain text for e-mails sent to this list does not work. By rights it
should. I don't know why it doesn't work for some people.

The whole list management of this list is very free form and there seems
to be a minimal concern for such issues, so I guess the penultimate
solution is that if you really don't like it, then unsubscribe.

That is the issue and discussion as stated at length on this for years now.
