Listen to the link. This apparently marks the middle of the peak of each
sunspot cycle. If you want to see something really earth-shaking, wait
until the year when the earth's magnetic field reverses. This usually
happens, supposedly, every 150,000 years or so, but hasn't happened for
800,000 years. A lot more cosmic rays would get through during the shift,
and the ionosphere would probably be very turbulent.

It Could end the world as we know it. Can't say if it has ever happened
before. Might we see weather change hemispheres? Gary

August 5, 2013: Something big is about to happen on the sun. According to
measurements from NASA-supported observatories, the sun's vast magnetic
field is about to flip.

"It looks like we're no more than 3 to 4 months away from a complete field
reversal," says solar physicist Todd Hoeksema of Stanford University. "This
change will have ripple effects throughout the solar system."
