Hi all,

I agree, it would be interesting and instructive to get some idea of what
other blind people are doing, and especially how, if at all, amateur radio
has helped or been involved in employment!

For me, it was more or less the other way around. I moved down to Tasmania
(in Australia) to manage a radio station, met a chap who is an amateur radio
operator, and the rest, shall we say, is history! I'd been involved in
amateur radio perifferally as a kid, in New Zealand, as my grandfather was
an amateur, and had largely thought the hoby had died! I was greatly
relieved upon coming down here to discover that it was still very much
alive, got my licence, and then discovered e-mail lists and websites about
amateur radio for people with disabilities!!!!

Sylvia, we do not have to have a degree in Florida.
But there is a mandatory 240 hour class you have to take.
Each department has their own set of rules for what you have to have for
working for them.

I too have been looking into some dispatch positions. I had thought about
being a 911 dispatcher. What are the requirements for that? It seems like
I read somewhere that they want you to have a degree of some kind in medical
and/or emergency communications. I've had 3 years of medical transcription
and terminology schooling, but I don't have any kind of degree in anything.
Just curious.
