Hi Steve!

On the contrary, please, keep the advice coming! My rig is a Kenwood
TS-2000. I have purchased the radio interface cable for it, the MFJ-5114K.
Indeed, I have seen in the manual the information about the needed jumper
and radio interface setup menu setting.

I think among the first things I will do with my MFJ-998 is perform 1) a
"total reset", 2) a "self test", and 3) a "power on" test. Checking to
ensure the jumper is installed is a must for my situation. There are a few
other tests such as a "relay test" and some calibration routines such as the
watt meter calibration; but these seem sort of hard, tedious and perhaps
unnecessary. Am I correct about that? Are there any other things I should
do?

I got this MFJ-998 for $400 plus the additional ~$35 I had to spend for the
power source (the MFJ-1316). It looks, so I am told, to be in good
condition. So, I think I got a good deal. If for any reason it turns out
not to be in good working condition, I can return it within 14 days for a
full refund.

Merry Christmas & 73,
Richard KK6MRH

Richard,

Since you got the tuner used, you might want to find out (if possible) what
radio the previous owner used it with.

There is an internal jumper that needs to be changed if used with some
brands of radio. The default position of the jumper is correct for Kenwood
and some Yaesu's, but needs to be removed for some Icom's.

Not trying to make things more complicated. I think the jumper will be in
place in most installs, so it is probably there and you will be good
to go. If it was removed for some reason it won't interface correctly.

73, enjoy the toy, Steve KW3A
