Hello my friends,

I have found an interesting scenario which, due to my lack of sight and
proper manual, I think I understand somewhat.

I have 13 frequencies programmed into the BAOFENG UV-3R radio that I have
been speaking of as of late. I have several comments and some questions
too.

The radio has generic settings that can be configured at the radio global
level, let's say master settings.

These settings are available with the JAWS Screen reader. There are
settings in that set that are as follows:

VFO RX

VFO TX

VFO tone

VFO power

We also have the same as above but for UFO frequencies. I need help with
explanations on how these two types work. This is the green coming out in
me!

Further observations, while working with the radio to try and make a contact
today:

1. The radio is fairly interesting in that when turned on, and in
channel mode, will come up and allow you to switche channel.

2. The channels that you are able to switch to are only those that
have been programmed. The radio does not provide empty channels while you
are browsing with the dial knob. To clarify, when the radio is turned on,
tand the master setting is set to Channel mode, that is what it does, it
takes you into channel mode when you turn it on.

3. My daughter,, who is sighted, tells me that there is a channel
number that appears. When I turn the knob, the channel number changes.
Good enough!

4. When I turn the knob, the frequency display changes only on top.
The bottom frequency, which I thought was the transmit frequency does not
change. Initially, I thought: Oh, my goodness, I was attempting to
establish a contact on the same frequency as the weather channel. Not
really.

5. The bottom reading is of another frequency and I suspect it is the
VFO RX or TX frequency which I have to go look to see!

6. Now, when I press U/V button, an arrow moves from the top frequency
reading to the bottom one and I start hearing something else. Say I have
channel 1 programmed for the Spanish weather channel and I press U/V once,
I am now listening to the frequency that is showing at the bottom of the
display. That frequency, I am not sure if it is the one that was filled in
for weather channel in the VFO RX or TX frequency field. I don't know if
it is the UFO RX or TX frequency; I have to test this, unless someone knows.

7. Pressing the U/V button again moves the arrow to the top frequency
in the display and I start hearing the weather fchannel which is in channel
1 of the programming.

8. If I hold down the U/V button, then the top frequency readout reads
a number above the 400 range and I don't know where this frequency is
coming from. The radio is a dual bander so it might just be switching to
that range.

9. Furthermore, I only get to see what is my TX frequency when I press
PTT; the display goes from RX frequency readout fto TX frequency readout on
the same line in the display (the top line or bottom line, depending on
where the arrow is pointing)

My repeaters are programmed but I have not yet made a contact.

Any further suggestions would be great !
