What a list that stuff is coming from; remind me not to join it. It's too
darn liberal; I think all liberals should be boiled in oil with their
Christmas pudding and buried with a stake of holly through their bleeding
hearts!!

That's satire of course, but you get my point!

Subject: Something To Think About

Hi All, Reference comments about Hams and Ham Radio Made A couple of =
years ago, recently under discussion here,=20
I thought these observations and comments made today by contributors to =
the Old VA Hams List, of which I'm a part, were interesting. I take =
neither credit nor blame for anything quoted below, but thought at least =
for contexts' and comments' sake, there might be merrit here.
Posters' entire thoughts<contact info are snipped, but not edited here, =
except for excise of an insert in the spelling of Massachusetts

Hi to everyone in the group,

I'm sending this reply back through the reflector because, one, the=20
original message came that way, and, two, because no one would give a=20
darn about Romney if he wasn't running for President.

I had sent this to another ham friend, and these are his thoughts that I =

happen to agree with.

73, ...S
I think Romney's comment is being taken out of context. Basically he =
was
being challenged for an infrastructure failure in communications. The
problem being addressed was a failure with inter-agency communications=20
which
to a point, should NOT have required the intervention of Ham Radio. =
More
specifically, the state police couldn't talk to the county police, who
couldn't talk to fire and rescue. It is the responsibility of these
agencies to maintain effective communications that do NOT require Hams =
to
bail them out. It was in this light that Romney's comments were made.
So, in an emergency, when the lines are down, we'll burn wood to stay =
warm,
but our local communications networks CAN be made more disaster proof.

It was no different from the typical energy rebuttal we give to the
tree-huggers and enviro-wackos when we say, "...they want us to ride =
bikes
and live in the 19th century...".

You must admit, that the typical emergency Ham Radio network is, of
necessity, on a lower technological scale than commercial cell-phone and
satellite systems. That's why it works, simply because it does NOT =
depend
on existing hi-tech. Mitt's comment was not, to use the modern =
vernacular,
"dissing" Hams, but was put to him in such a way as to suggest that the
system is so bad that we'd have take a big step backwards and have Hams =
do
the job (burn wood) for them.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not thrilled with ANY of the top five. But, =
 I
do know that in recent history at least, Governors make good presidents =
and
Senators generally make bad presidents. (The two exceptions to this are
Jimmy Carter and John Kennedy.)

People criticize Mitt for some of his liberal decisions, but you have to
remember, he was governor in the liberal bastion of Massa....chusetts!
He certainly has a fantastic track record of "running things" though.

In my opinion, only three of them have a prayer of beating Hillary: =
McCain,
Giuliani or Romney

McCain has a great POW story but generally votes with the Dems. =
Remember
McCain/Feingold and the gang of 14?

Rudy would be a good terror fighter, but again, his liberal voting=20
record is
a blot.
=20
Huck is just another liberal Rino who's only claim to fame is his =
ministry.
No wonder the media is pushing him.....he'd be SO easy to beat.

That leaves Thompson who I agree with 99.9% but he just isn't a O or H
killer.

I'd love to see a Romney/Thompson team, but jeeez, I'd hold my nose and=20
vote
for ANY of them compared to what the Dims have to offer.
=20
I think this should be circulated to all the Hams who received the=20
original email.73' ....

Hey, I've got a great idea - why doesn't someone in the Amateur Radio=20
news community (like AR Newsline) actually ASK Mitt Romney to comment on =

his previous interview and maybe clarify his comments? Who knows; you=20
might actually get AN ANSWER instead of a rant!
