Give me a good working e-mail address, and I'll send you a bunch of text
files with excellent documentation and various cheat sheets for the TMV71A.
In addition, I'll send you a great audio tutorial that our friend Steve
Dresser (WA1RTB) prepared aimed at giving you a guided tour of the rig in
terms that we can identify with. When I got my first TMV71A, I worked
through Steve's tutorial, and got the radio set up in an afternoon without
any sighted assistance whatsoever.
Here are a couple of other things to keep in mind:
1. I would think this goes without saying, but be sure to get the VGS1
voice chip for the rig. Depending on the store, the Ham Radio Outlet you
may be dealing with could put it in for you. and
2. Although it's great for you to learn how to program frequencies and
other parameters into the radio manually, I'd strongly suggest purchasing a
programming cable for the rig. With that, you can program the radio via
your computer, save all your memories and other parameters into a file on
the computer, and write them back into the radio with a minimal amount of
effort should you have to re-set the radio for whatever reason.
