I have only had a acsual play with this radio a few years ago.
If you press the antenna tune button, the rig goes into low power transmit
in order to tune the antenna.
If the process fails, the rig hangs in the transmit state for a long while.
It usually only takes up to 15 seconds approximately for it to tune.
It also has quite a numbee of preset antenna memories so that when you tune
the rig to a frequency near to one where you have previously tuned it, it
returns to those settings.

I use the ft1000mp which has a similar system.

Hello:

I am currently using a Yaesu FT-990 that I am considering buying.  Does
anybody have any info on this radio such as a manual or cheat sheet for this
radio? Also, does anyone know if there is a way to tell if the antenna
hasn't tuned?  It doesn't seem to make any morse code signals like my
Kenwood 480Sat. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
