Lloyd and all:

Here's Scott's response to my question about the lattitude/longitude degree
differences between the usual sources and the N3FJP software:

Quote: "You'll need to enter the exact coordinates on the set up form
manually.". End quote

Even though this response might not seem terribly helpful, I think it's
Scott's way of saying that the default coordinates in the software are not
accurate, and that it is best to consult other more reliable sources like
qrz.com, WM7D.net, etc..

At least I know now that I've been doing the right thing all along by
manually entering the coordinates into each logging program.

He might be representing the corner of a grid square, where other people may
use the center of the grid square for their coordinate reference. Just
guessing.

Not sure, David.

I have written to N3FJP himself about this, and will let everyone know if I
hear anything back. It just seems strange that the default latitude and
longitude coordinates in the N3FJP software would be a full two degrees
different than what appears in other listings.

How are they measured?

Subject: Interesting Problem With N3FJP Logging Software

Hi, again, everyone.

As I configured the logging software for the Stew Perry 160-meter CW
contest, I noticed an interesting problem concerning the latitude and
longitude coordinates for my particular location.

Typically, I always list my latitude and longitude according to the figures
given on qrz.com. For my home QTH, they were listed as 43.69 lattitude,
and 85.49 longitude. When I checked these coordinates with Siri on my
iPhone, they were listed as 43.7 lattitude, and 85.48 longitude.

In the setup screen for the N3FJP logging software, my coordinates are 2
degrees off, both for latitude and longitude. I can't remember specifics,
but they are approximately 41 degrees latitude, and 83 degrees longitude.

I'm hoping that the QRZ.com coordinates are the most accurate, because those
are the ones I am listing. . But, I'm curious as to why this discrepancy
might exist.

Any thoughts????
