That sounds like a real bunch of jerks to me.  Why would they deny 
membership to another ham operator?  The only reason I could think of was 
because either you have been doing bad things on lists before--a claim 
without any substantiation as evidenced by your behavior on this list or 
because someone on the list doesn't like you.

Well, I guess one way to look at it is that their loss is your gain.
