Fred,
Most, if not all of the commercially sold ones use direct coax feed with a
balun at the feedpoint. Most use 4:1 baluns, while some use 6:1. It's the
off center feedpoint ( roughly 1/3 from 1 end) that makes it work
harmonically on other bands. A full size 80 meter one will also work on
40, 20, and 10 meters, as well as 17, 12, and 6 meters.
Very high swr on 30 and 15 meters, but that's life.
