Sure, it will give your call sign, I know a ton of people do it, in fact, my 
packet station, and all the rest in the area I know of, beacon so we know 
they're there and as long as they ID which most TNC's will do automatically 
if they beacon at all, you're legal. The only thing to consider is being 
careful that you don't wear the battery in the car out but in the club I 
belong to, many of the guys have their TM-D700's on all the time so they do 
that and generally that's not a problem. I think some of the radios, like 
the TM-D710, and the THD-72A go so far as to only transmit info when they're 
moving and can be set to do it less or not at all when stopped.
