I melted a cigarette lighter plug once...i was trying to run a 40 watt cb
radio and a 250 watt liniar off the plug....being young and kinda dumb, i
blew the fuse in the car, so i jumpered that with a piece of wire...and then
I blew the fuse in the cigarette plug...not wanting to be diswaded from my
mission, i wrapped the fuse in the adapter with tin foil and got on the
air...for about 3 minutes until smoke started coming out of the cigarette
lighter....the whole thing was a mass of melted plastic.
I'm surprised i didn't start a considerable fire in the van doing all that.
So to fix the entire issue, i used a pair of 50 amp 13.8VDC fuses, another
big battery and hooked it into the alternator of the car.
Things ran much more smoothly after that...except that perceptible power
drain sound of the engine nearly stalling when i keyed up as the car was at
idol.
That only happened when i used the 600 watt amp instead of the 250 hi.
