You have group by conversation in your views menu turned on.  Uncheck it and it 
will be back to one message at a time.

If you group by conversation, you can delete multiple messages as the messages 
are grouped by topic.  If you were to ruight-arrow on a message, you'd open up 
the treeview to see all the messages in that topic.

I have never had this happen before, but all of a sudden when i got =
windows again, my outlook express is on random messages, saying, when i =
delete the message, "do you want to delete all the messages in this =
thread" or something to that effect.  well, some of them don't have =
other messages related to that one, some do, but how the heck can i shut =
this up.  its annoying and like i said, i never have gotten this before
