Which bands are important to you? Do you have a tuner? Any room for a
dipole?

I have a Cushcraft R5 I bought used. The bad news is you can only by it
used because they don't make it anymore. I use a K3Mt windom for 40 and 80
meters, but this requires a tuner.

You might take a look at the Hustler 4BTV or 5BTV. I've never used one but
they get mostly good comments on Eham. The Hustlers don't cover the WARC
bands though, so if 12 and 17 are important to you then this is probably not
for you.

Don't be afraid to build your own antenna either. I've built dozens over
the years and it's a lot of fun. Pick a band and built a simple dipole or
inverted vee. Don't worry about baluns and tuners, just cut the wire a
little long and roll up the ends a little at a time until you get a match.
I once built a 15 meter inverted vee for my apartment. I worked the world
with my old HW-16 cw rig with only 30 watts. Ok, I admit, I worked all the
neighbors TV's too, but it sure was fun.

Subject: choosing an antenna

Greetings again,

Now that I've decided to purchase the Icom IC-718, I need to choose the
type of antenna that I want to connect to it. I don't have a lot of space
to put an antenna, so I need to choose between a vertical or a mini-beam.
Which type of antenna will work well with the IC-718?

And before I forget to mention it, I want to thank everyone who

responded to my question about the Icom.

Best regards, from Don and Crazy Cullen.
