I used an Icom 718 as a portable HF rig for a number of years before
purchasing my TS480, and loved it.

You likely will need some sighted assistance getting it initially set up,
but once that is done, and if the voice chip is installed, you should be
good to go.

The 718 is not a top-of-the-line rig for sure, but there are plenty of them
on the air out there, and they sound fine.

Back around 2002 or so, I did a review of the rig for Handihams, and will
send that to you, plus anything else I still have on the rig, if you'd like
me too.

If I remember correctly, I paid around $500 for mine new at Dayton back in
2002.

Hey guys,

Anyone on ehre using the Icom 718? I'm looking at a portable hf setup, and
this might not be a bad option.
Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Jed
