I wonderee about the same thing, but I have a friend who has run a rig
like that for years and his audio sounds fine.  Besides, just happened to
think, he may be using shielded cable which is sometimes used in networks.
I suppose it would depend on the environment, but remember, these are also
low impedence mikes any more.

Didn't work for you, did for my friend, what can I say.
