Hi list,

I've been reading that somewhere between 9 million and 25 million people
will lose 1 or more of their TV signals that are now analog when the switch
is made. These people are living in fringe areas and will need not just the
converter boxes but a fairly high gain roof mount antenna. This will add
significantly to the cost of the conversion for these people to say nothing
of the inconvenience. This is just another example of letting the market
decide issues without any real regulation and planning. Canada is waiting
until 2011 to force the switch. They have debated this issue and they want
to make sure that everyone has the ability to do the switch over with
minimal inconvenience. Canada is much more spread out in area than the US
and the issues of fringe area reception will be greater in the western
provinces--thus the delay.

There is something I don't understand. Is the FCC requiring use of both =
analog and digital transmission? I thought this decision just extends =
the time that analog is permitted. Stations are going to lose viewers =
no matter what the cut off date is.
Let's hope stations are digital ready by now.

I just paid $120 for cable and Internet and am seriously thinking of =
putting an antenna near the window for my $12 converter box.

This has already been rescheduled about 10 times in the last 7 or 8 =
years, it will again and might even run TV stations broke in the =
process. 10K extra a month to run both ways at the same time is a lot of =
money with the economy as it is.
