Colin,

Not sure about the capacitors part, but the rest of what you said is 
essentially correct: current remains constant in a series circuit, and 
voltage remains constant in a parallel circuit.  I know that a cell's 
internal resistance changes as its voltage decreases, but I'm not quite sure 
how.
