Have you had the RF feedback problem with the MC 60 on the 590? I
have, but it works fine on the TMV71A and yes, I have batteries
in the mic. I don't know if the 71A could power the mic through
the adapter cable that goes from that dumb RJ45 or whatever phone
module jack they use but will have to try the mic on the 590
again without batteries in the pre-amp to see how it works. Like
I commented in an earlier post, I use the mic plugged directly to
the radio bi-passing the base, just plug the cord that normally
screws into the base right into the mic and the other end into
the 590, it works fine without the pre-amp. 73, Jim WA6EKS

All MC-60A's get power form Kenwood radios. There were one or 2
Kenwoods
that didn't have the power pin on the mic jack but honestly, I've
had almost
all the Kenwood radios since they went to the 8 pin jack and I
have yet to
come across the one that doesn't have that capability. The only
one I'm not
sure of was the TS-930 but even that I'm pretty sure mine had
that. The
battery compartment is nice if you rewire it for a 4 pin Kenwood
or another
make of radio but other than that, you don't need to put
batteries in it.
I've run one on most of the Kenwood HF radios I've owned back
when I used to
try them all and I don't ever recall using batteries and the
preamp always
working. I've had about all the Kenwood radios too, the list of
ones I
haven't had is a lot shorter than ones I have though I can't say
for
anything newer than the TS-2000 because I can't afford to do that
anymore.

I'm kinda thought that this might be a newer model that uses
power from
 the radio.

I'm surprised it needs batteries, power is available on the
microphone
connector. I can ask on other lists if you don't get a response
here.

 Hello list,

Does anyone here use the Kenwood MC60A desktop mic? I ordered
one with
my TS590, and I can't figure out how to insert the batteries to
power
the preamp. I got the PDF manual, and it talks about removing
four
screws to get at the battery compartment. But the bottom of my
unit has
six screws, four of which hold the rubber feet to the case. I
took all
the screws out except for the two screws holding what I think is
the
impedance switch but can't get the bottom plate off. The fit is
so snug
I can't insert the blade of a screwdriver to pry it off.

 Thanks for any help.

So does anyone here use this mic?
