I don't have any personal experience but I know of at least one blind ham that uses a Kenwood TS480. They seem pretty reasonable and the VGS-1 board is readily available.

It depends on your budjet and what bands you want to cover, if just 160 through six, some options, if you want a radio that includes 2 and 440, not much except the Kenwood 2000.  I'd recommend Kenwood as their stuff is most accessible.  Again, how much do you have to spend, Some icom stuff talks, but not as much as Kenwood radios do.
