Just after reading the discussion of the Haven, I saw this message
that was posted to the ACB Leadership list.

With AT&T plus Nokia giving away a screen reader that is at least
partially functional, it is wishful thinking that maybe the prices on
some of the other software packages will drop in order to keep them
selling.

Well, it's fun to think of lower prices anyway.

Free is nice, but excluding the IPhone, which I too have not yet
tackled, the free screen readers have a tendency to be minimal at
best.

As far as phones go, I still miss my old Nokia 6620, which died about
3 years ago.

It had better audio on both the receiving and transmitting end than I
have heard from any other phone made in the past 3 years. Most of them
make you sound like you are under water. The manufacturers don't
really care about audio. Their priorities are faster data, more video
features, some useful, and fartoo many useless apps, etc., because
that is what is driving the sale of moble phones these days.

Subject: [leadership] Nokia releases a new free screen reader

Colleagues,

Nokia has just announced a free screen reader for some of its phones
at the
annual Nokia World conference. It is based on Mobile Speak on the
Simbian
platform. Here is an article that discusses it. At this point, we are
not
certain how feature rich the screen reader is. If any of you consider
purchasing one of the phones supported by the screen reader and will
be
trying this app, please let us know how it works.

Pratik
