Yes, it is a dummy load.

Specifically, it is a dry dummy load, thus the absence of oil.

I have owned one since around 1980.

The spec sheet is long gone, but I think the rating is 300 watts for 
no more than 15 seconds.

I can tell you that 100 watts of carrier for 30 seconds will cause it 
to become warm. Much more than 45 seconds, and you begin to smell 
heating metal.

So, I wouldn't put 300 watts into mine for any time at all unless it 
was by accident.

With that limitation, it is a good dummy load within 100 watts or so.

A friend of mine who is getting rid of a bunch of ham junk brought a

It is a Drake DL300.

Is this a dummy load?

It's a rectangular box with a male PL259 on one end.

It doesn't have oil or other lliquid in it, like I'd expect for a 
dummy
load, but it does have frequency ranges and SWR specifications  on it.

If this is a dummy load, I obviously want to know how much power it 
can
handle, and how it works.

Any information anyone can come up with would be appreciated.
