I also had one of those Webster Echotape machines.  It produced pretty good 
recordings, but mine didn't have the 1 and 7 eighths speed.  And the largest 
reel it would take was a 7 inch reel.  So you probably had a different model 
than I had.  But that recorder lasted me 15 years or so.
