Hi Steve and Mike,

Thank you all for your comments. I have another question regarding the
integral antenna tuner on the ts-590 that you all or other ts-590 owners
might could address.

How well does the built in antenna tuner work? Does it perform comparabally
to a stand-alone tuner?

Kent,

Welcome aboard! I have both rigs, as do a few others on this list. For a
decent rig that can do everything, the TS-2000 is real nice; almost as
accessible as the 590 except that the setting of mike gain and power level
doesn't speak, but the knob is detented so you can pretty much tell what
level you are at. The 2000 doesn't do quite as good of a job at filtering
with the digital filters, but it does give you capability on 160 through 70
CM, with the exception of the 220MHz band. For Hf-only, for the price the
590 is quite nice.

You can spend a bit more on an Ic 756 Pro, but it isn't quite as easy to
operate as the 590.
