Alan,
AC Log uses DXSpots.com. I've been using it for several years. The advantage
of running a spotting cluster from within AC Log is that if you find a spot
you want to work, you can just hit enter and it will switch your rig to that
frequency and mode and will fill the call sign into the log.
After you use it for a while, you can add filters to leave out unwanted
spots. Some of that can be done from within AC Log but you can add more
complex filters on the DXSpots.com site itself. AC Log uses your call sign
as your login in DXSpots.com so you can login from your browser and set the
more complex filters.
But again, save all that for later. First just go try it with the defaults.

I believe you are using N3FJP's AC Log. If so, it automatically can bring up
a DX spotting cluster and does quite well with it. Look under settings and
just turn it on for a start. Later you can tune it for your preferences but
that can wait. One nice feature is that it will voice announce (using
Microsoft SAPI, not your screen reader) new countries or new countries per
band.
Once activated, it will run every time you run AC Log. To get to the
spotting window, press control+Z.
