I want to understand SSB and CW filtering a little more and I'm hoping
someone on this list can help.
I will name the model numbers of the Yaesu Ft-102 filters but for
comparison, they are very similar to the older Kenwoods. I think the
Kenwood 1ST IF is 8.3 VS 8.2 as in the case of my Yaesu.
My FT-102 has a number of optional filter slots, 1 for SSB, 1 for a.M and 2
for CW.
The SSB slot contains an 8.2KHZ, not MHZ, 1ST IF called the XF-8.2HSN and
can narrow to 1.8KHZ for SSB and 3.1KHZ wide for CW. my next filter, the
XF-8.2HC, is also a 1ST IF  CW filter only and is a 600HZ/1.3KHZ filter.
I have the AM which is called XF-8.2GA and is  a 4KHZ to 12.5KHZ filter,
not sure if this is still a 1ST IF but think so.
I want to install my 2ND IF 455KHZ CW filter which has a bandwidth of 500HZ
to 1KHZ. What improvements will this make?
Are the 8.2 1ST IF filters main job to reject and 8KHZ spread
interfearance? IE if I'm on 7.150, is the 8.2's job to prevent
interfearance from 4.1KHZ on either side of that frequency?
What Is the 2ND IF's job?  Does it reject interfearance between lets say
4KHZ and 227.5KHZ on either side of a 7.150MHZ frequency?
If you listen to my Demo and I can get Steve to forward it out or the link
to my dropbox public folder worked, the high pitch of the interfearing CW
station, was no more than 1KHZ away and my XF-8.2C CW filter rejected it
with no problems,
